SATURDAY
CLUB NIGHT OUT

Club members will be happy to learn that Saturday Club Night Out is resuming at 12th Street Lounge located in the lobby of the downtown Marriott Hotel, 200 W. 12th Street, Kansas city, MO (816-421-6800).  For the past year, a Las Vegas-type entertainment show has been playing at the 12th St. Lounge- great show, but no opportunity for people to dance.  That's changed!  For new members reading this, 12th Street Lounge was a very popular club night our due to the centralized location, very nice accommodations, and good dance floor.

Webmaster comments:  why not email Mary and tell her how much you appreciate how great it is we receive the newsletter a week before the 1st of the month.   SUPER JOB!!

Club Activities

Don't forget to check the club activities calendar.  There's something for everyone, and there's something going on every single day of the week!  Your club is hard at work giving you many opportunities to improve your dancing and have a good time!

Monday Intermediate Tango Lessons are $4.

Thursday Night Bib Band Street Swing lessons are $3 for one class; $5 for two classes; $6 for three classes

FootNotes Editor's note:  Since the club is offering Argentine Tango lessons on Monday nights, I thought it might be of interest to you to learn more about the origin of the dance)

(FootNotes Editor's Note:  Did you notice the similarity of true Argentine Tango & the swing community's style of West Coast Swing when it comes to interpreting the music and playing with timing?)

While Dancing
In giving the hand for dancing, those dancing should wear a smile, and accompany it with a polite inclination of the head, in the manner of a salutation.  t the end of the dance, the gentleman reconducts the lady to her place, bows and thanks her for the honor which she has conferred.  She also bows in silence, smiling with a gracious air.

Grace and Modesty
Dance with grace and modesty, neither affect to make a parade of your knowledge; refrain from great leaps and ridiculous jumps,

which would attract the attention of all towards you.

General Rules for a Ballroom

A lady will not cross a ballroom unattended.

A gentleman will not take a vacant seat next to a lady who is a stranger to him.  If she is an acquaintance, he may do so with her permission.

White kid gloves should be worn at the ball and only taken off at supper time

When a gentleman escorts a lady home from a ball, she should not

invite him to enter the house; and even if she does so, he should by all means decline the invitation.  He should call upon her during the next day or evening.

Any presentation to a lady in a public ballroom for the mere purpose of dancing does not entitle you to claim her acquaintance afterwards; therefore, should you meet her, at most you may lift your hat; but even that is better avoided-unless, indeed she first bows--as neither she nor her friends can know who or what you are.

BEATA HOWE
JUNE WORKSHOP & PARTY
by Mary Carrington, Publications Director

You won't want to miss the Beata Howe weekend workshop June 18-20!  Beata's teaching style and enthusiasm make learning the latest West Coast Swing moves, as well as reviewing the basics, really fun.  You'll be surprised how fast the lessons fly by"  (For those of you who attended Beata's August '98 workshop in Kansas City, you'll understand when I ask, "Have you been practicing goofy, awkward and silly?  Or, have you now advanced to smooth, sexy and stylish?")  If one can be awkwardly sexy or stylishly goofy, I think I fit those categories!

Also see the Activities Committee has another fun-filled dance party planned for Friday night, June 18.  The theme is "A Summer Picnic".

Details of the workshop and party will be in the June edition of FootNotes, as well as at the clubhouse.  You won't want to miss out on all the fun!
(Webmaster note:  Details will be here, too!!)
