Get out your calypso
clothes--we're going to have a fiesta! Ole!
Friday, August 6, there is going
to be another wonderful party at the clubhouse
right after the two workshops with
Robert Cordoba and Debra Szekely.
The theme is Mexican Fiesta.
It starts at 9:00 PM and is only $3.
All you have to do is find
some
colorful,
frilly
clothes to get into the
mood
and show up.
The Activities Committee will do the rest.
We're emphasizing the clothes this
time, so try hard.
Talk about food! We're going
to have a taco bar
this time
to feed on after those two workshops
from 7:00-9:00 PM.
You'll be hungry!
We'll be ready for you!
The entertainment should be worth
your time for a fun-filled Friday night.
We're not going to tell you what--just
show up and enjoy!
The Activities Committee will be
waiting for you.

Weekend Workshops
Robert Cordoba & Deborah Szekely
will be here at the clubhouse for a workshop
August 6-8.
Please see the attached flyer (see the Workshops
page
on the site). For those of you who attended last year's Cordoba/Szekely
workshop weekend, you know the quality of instruction you will experience!
And, you will see some fabulous dancing by these world-class swing dancers!
Friday night will be their lesson & dance party ($3 admission.) Any
of the six Saturday/Sunday workshops are $10; or all six of the workshops
for the full weekend only $50.

Practice in the Clubhouse
Members, do you want to practice
in the clubhouse? See your newsletters for details or ask at the
clubhouse for appointments in August. As you know, the
club house floor is large enough
to accommodate quite a few couples, so don't
feel you are in the way if
another couple is practicing. Just use good dance etiquette.
Labor Day weekend in Dallas
Dallas Dance, sponsored by The Dallas
Push Club, will soon be here. This annual
event is held during the Labor
Day weekend in Dallas and is always a dance
extravaganza! There will be workshops
taught by the "biggies" of swing dance
(Mario Robau, Barry Jones, Robert
Cordoba, just to name a few), 13 swing dance
contests, and lots of general dancing
to great music. Paula Maria is
coordinating a trip to Dallas Dance.
Ask at the clubhouse for more details.

More Club Activities
By Sue
Williamson, Activities Committee Director
Hey! Let's talk about some
future events coming up!
After the Mexican Fiesta party August
6, we'll be looking forward to our
Western Party October 8.
This is when you'll want to get
out those Levi's, Wranglers,
western jeans, hats, and studs
(down girls--the kind on our clothes!) This
event is one week before the
BIG event of the Heartland,
which starts October 14,
and which everyone will want to
get in on. It's a must!
Heartland is the big event in Kansas
City each year. There will be all those
wonderful dance pros, wonderful
workshops, and fabulous contests to watch and
participate in. Actually,
we have several couples from our club who compete and
we ALL need to go and support them.
It really helps, you know.
Also, this is a great time to get
to see and meet several pros at one time.
Here are a few benefits of the
Heartland: you don't need a partner to attend
and participate; you don't need
to be afraid you're not a good enough dancer; you
can choose what you want to attend;
and you can just observe if you don't choose
to dance any or all the time.
Everyone can get something from this event.
Now, what can you do as a member
of our club? The KCSDC is in charge of the
hospitality room on Thursday night,
October 14. This requires a spread of food
like you can't even imagine.
EVERYONE needs to bring a finger food, a drink, or
help serve that night because EVERYONE
eats like it was his last meal this
night. Please give back what
all you can get from belonging to our club by
helping with something that Thursday
night. We'll be telling you more about it
later, but don't blow off this
great opportunity to lend a hand. We need you!
We'll tell you more about this big
event at our General Membership Meeting
on
Sunday, August 22 at 3:00 PM.
C U there, right?
